The Sims

Personal History with the Sims

In Christmas 2009, my mom gave me a new Sims 3 for Christmas. The game has been out for a few months at the point. Prior to that, the only Sims game I played was the PlayStation 2 version of the Sims 2 at a friend's house. I also remember watch some Sims 2 Machinima videos on YouTube back with some kids at a day camp program back in summer 2008 when me and my niece was staying with our aunt in Texas. Not only I got the copy of the Sims 3, I also got a The Sims 3 strategy guide from Prima Games. I remember used that guide a lot when I made houses and looking at the bio of the household of Sunset Valley.

Just like any other teen girl playing the Sims 3, we made Sims version of ourself and our crushes. Some make Sims version of our favorite characters from TV and movies series and have them date each other when the media didn't. Then other who rather watch their Sims suffer by making their live miserable such as putting them in a room with no door, no toliet or fridge. Oh, then there the most famous way to kill off the Sims where you have them go swimming in a pool and you delete the pool ladder, that will keep them from escaping. Thankfully, I wasn't that cruel to my Sims, instead I made my Sims based characters from my favorite TV show and made the Sims version of me and my crush I had from high school.

I played with the Sims 3 on and off because I have school. Then I had to install the game on a few computers between 2009 and 2014. On one of my save files from my 3rd computer, I made it to gen 6 with one of my families before the save file got corrupted and I had to delete the file! This was before I start using mods and the computer was only a few years old, so this made me very sad :(. On my laptop (my current device that I'm using as we speak), I made another family and make it gen 5 before I abandoned them due to file taking forever to both load and save when I want to save progress. Well, that's what happen if play with large family for a long period of time.

In 2019, I got the Sims 4 for free to mark 5 year since the current game was release. Prior to owning the game, I heard very bad things about the Sims 4. The base game is actually boring without installing mods or the expansion packs. Some of the features that were in the Sims 3, such as open world and driving cars were gone. Even the Create-A-Style, one of my favorite tools I used to decorate furnitures, is gone! The relationship status were different and confusing. There weren't even pools when the game first came out! And also, there were game breaking bugs that made players, mad! As the result, I hold off on playing the Sims 4 in hope that EA will clean up their act and fix this mess (they still haven't, but at least the Sims 4 is in a "better state" now compare when the game was first released).

For the Sims 4, this is where I start installing mods that will make the game look more lively. And it worked. I also bought some of the expansion packs on sale, because I refuse to pay a full price to EA. Even with the packs, I was on and off with the game and I think I only made it to gen 2 with one family before abandoning it. Like I don't get, how can I get to gen 6 with one family in the Sims 3, but can only make it to gen 2 in the Sims 4!?!

Overall

Despite haven't playing the Sims 4 in months, I like the game and the series for being my first life simulator game, that isn't Animal Crossing. Since then, I played other simulator games which is Stardew Valley, Cities: Skylines and House Flipper. Still, the Sims 3 holds a speical place in my heart, even thought I can't play anymore due to CD disk to one of the expansion game died and I lost the both the disk and the install code to the orignal game (that I blamed my niece for). So now, the Sims 4 are the only Sims game I can touch. I heard about EA announcing there making a Sims 5 (or Project Rene they're calling it for now) and might be releasing between 2024 and 2025. What I heard that it'll have multiplayer, let you play your saves across devices and the base game will be free-to-play.

I might play the Sims 5 if I hear good things about it from the community. Otherwise, I'll stick to playing the Sims 4 for the time being. I also heard there are other Sims competitor in the works, such as Life By You, which is made by Paradox Interactive and Paralives, which is made by a smaller studio. Same thing with the Sims 5, I'll play with as long I hear good things about the two games when they come out. But my main concern is that most Sims competitors only last less than five years and can't replace the long time franchise that easily.

My Favorite Mods

Here are some of my mods that I use when I play the Sims 4. As we speak, they still work and I'll check to make sure you can still download it. Oh and a warning, when whatever the game updates, the mods will be turned off as defult for safety reasons. So, you need to turn it back on, exit and reset the game in order for them to work again. Also, you need to make sure the mods are updated in order for it to work. Otherwise, it won't and the game might crash.

On another note, some of the links that is on the page, you need to make an account in order to download them. Thankfully, you can create them for free.

MC Command Center: This is the big one. It's one of the best Sims mods of all time! Made by Deaderpool, what it does it adds greater control to your Sims 4 game exerience and allow the NPC to have story progression! It also have all the cheats in hand, so don't have to remember to type it in anymore. And it can even clean up any stuck characters or stuff, that will cause the game to crash if not too careful! If haven't play the Sims 4 before or haven't use any mods, GET THIS! It'll make the game not boring!!!

Slice of Life: This Sims mod, made by KawaiiStacie, adds realism to your game by giving all of the cheacter models physical changes depending on their mood and buffs. Sims' face turns red whenever their feeling embarrassed.

Explore Mod: There's another Sims mod created by KawaiiStacie, this one allows your Sims to leave the lot through rabbit hole places (something that the Sims 3 has, but the Sims 4 don't) and return with buffs, motive, skill and relationship increases.

BuildBuyMode Unlocker: This mod allows players to buy all the furniture that is locked up until you've reached a level of specific career tracks. Nobody has time for all that, so this mod actually cut the middle man and you can buy them on day 1!

Automatic Thermostat: Are you sick and tired of having your sims being force to physically set the thermostat on based on what season is it? Did you forgot to turn it down during summer? Hope you don't die of heat stroke! Just for 699 Simoleon (the sims currency), you can upgrade to an automatic thermostat that will cahnge depending on the weather outside at the moment. So no more forgetting if you change the thermostat or not. Your Sims' butts will thank you!

Life’s Tragedies: One thing about the series that there are never any random tragedies happening to your sims. This mod changes that where it adds actual random tragedies to your sims lives such as getting hit by a car, getting sick to the point they nearly died from it and more! This mod might actually cause you to grow attach to your sims and hope they can even make it to their elder stage! On the link page, in order to look for the mod itself, scroll down until your find the "Life Tragedies" text.

And a small warning, the mod covers some dark topics such as serial killings and bullying, which might be upsetting for some. So, be careful before think about getting this.

Wicked Whims (NSFW): Warning, this mod is not for anyone under 18! This mod focuses on dating, relationship and pregnancy. It allows you to set everything from the trials that your sims will find attractive to dating preferences and even using birth control. This mod will make the Sims 4 feel like real world dating. But the one thing that make Wicked Whims stand out the most is how much sex that your sims can do. Not the "WooHoo" where they go underneath the bed and do the deed. Like, they do hardcore sex! There's also real like nudity and have their own sex animation!

However, if you want all above minus the sex and the nudity, thankfully the modder who created Whicked Whims, made Wonderful Whims, a clean, safer version of the original mod. And to prevent getting in deep water here, I'll go put in the link for Wonderful Whims instead. As for Whicked Whims, you can go search it up and it's the first link you see. Like I said, you must 18 or older to even touch the mod!
